 Well there was plenty of speculation and anticipation at the time but it was never really going to happen. Lance had already won 7 Tour de France races on the trot. What else did he need prove?
Anyway, this is how RIDE Cycling Review cartoonist, Bremner saw it in his regular panel 'The Pelotoons'. Maybe it's the only time we'll see Lance on a Giatex but let's hope not!
